An image just released displays the singer of 50 years provokingly in fishnet tights and Vuitton-logo underwear for some ads. Madonna has been signed for Vuitton’s spring and summer 2009 collection, which the company has presented as an “amazing coup”.

Steven Meisel shot the photos. Meisel also took pictures for Madonna’s infamous Sex book in 1992. Antoine Arnault, Louis Vuitton’s communications director, said: “Madonna is glamorous. She has a international image. She’s the ultimate performer and businesswoman, and not someone who is just a famous vocalist. She has moved around. She has tried to vary things.” Marc Jacobs, the label’s creative director, came up with the thought of putting Madonna after seeing her perform at a concert in Paris.
“I just blurted out, ‘I think we should do Madonna,’” he said. “I was totally just blown away by it, and moved by her performance, by what she had to say, and her energy.” He sent her a text asking if she would be interested and the singer replied minutes later, saying: “I’d love to.” Jacobs described the campaign as “beautiful, gorgeous Madonna”.

There are six images in all and the setting is a smoky French bistro, although in reality they were taken in a Los Angeles restaurant. Another shot is more elegant, showing the singer in a 1940s-style jacket. Newly-divorced Madonna was reportedly paid $10 million for one day’s work but Arnault has denied the number, saying the real fee was “very far away from that”.
